From the 15th to 23rd of July Curacao Chess Players Foundation held another edition of the yearly Curacao Chess Festival. This years tournament was organized in cooperation with Sambil Curacao where a total of about 50 players, youth and adults competed on the checkered boards for the various prizes. The tournament counted with participation of various players from Aruba where together with local players there were quite a few interesting games in both the Youth and Open group as the various players displayed their talent on the boards. After a tremendous 9 round fight over 9 days the results became known late Saturday afternoon.
In the Youth group medal prizes for best scored ages 6 - 9 went to Thamara Sagasthegui (Aruba) who scored 1st with a total of 4 pts and Aviandrie Kastablank (Curacao) on 2nd with 3 pts. As for best scored ages 10 - 12, Ethan Coeze (Aruba) placed 1st with 5.5 pts, Taqesyah Marcos (Curacao) 2nd with 5.5 pts and Lesley Cielo (Aruba) on 3rd with 5 pts. In the youth group overall Curacao's young and upcoming talents David Pietersz with 8 pts and Dylan Mathilda on 7.5 pts raked in the 1st and 2nd prize respectively where 3rd was taken in by Sebastian Torres (Aruba) with 6 pts.
The Open group counted with participation of veteran as well as some young and upcoming strong players who made the battle a whole lot interesting. In the end Aruba's talented Mark Bueno got away with 1st place on 8 pts by means of tie-break points as Wim Blijstra (Curacao) took 2nd also on 8 pts leaving Alex Roose (Curacao) on 3rd with 6 pts.
All by all it was another great tournament and thanks to all the players who participated, thes chess fans who visited throughout the games and Sambil Curacao.
