Fabio Mensing National Chess Champion 2014

Curacao has a new national chess champion, Mr. Fabio Mensing.
The 2014 championship organized by FEDAKO kicked off in the weekend of 7, 8, and 9 November and ended in the weekend of 15 and 16 November where about 20 players challenged each other for the title. After a tough 7 round tournament the results became known on Sunday Nov 16. Fabio Mensing claimed the 2014 title while newcomer Ursus van Bemmelen took 2nd leaving renowned player Jimmy Izijk on 3rd. Medal prizes for 4th, 5th and 6th place went to Ailen Mena, Claudio Sagredo and Norman Hodgson respectively. There were also medal prizes for the top 3 female players, Ailen Mena 1st, Seydi Salim-Moussa 2nd, and Argeenie Pieters 3rd.
Chess Club Janwe congratulates all the prize winners as well as its young and upcoming talents: Dylan Mathilda, David Pietersz and Timothy Carolina who participated.
