On Wednesday April 12th a delegation consisting of 5 youth players and accompanying chess trainers FM Alvin Smith and CM Jimmy Izijk traveled to Kingston Jamaica for the Carifta Chess Championships 2017. The 6th edition of the Carifta Chess Championships hosted at the Knutsford Court Hotel was played in 3 female groups and 3 open groups where players from Aruba, Bahamas, Barbados, Curacao, Trinidad & Tobago and host country Jamaica participated. Over the course of the 7 round tournament our local young talents performed quite well achieving a score of 50% or more. Player Taqesyah Marcos won 2nd place in the U-16 female while 9 year old Frederic Simonis placed 5th in the U-12 absolute, securing him silver (2nd place) for the U-10 sub-category.
