Club players score prizes in Rapid Chess Madness 2015

FEDAKO kicked off the 2015 chess season with a rapid chess tournament which took place on Saturday January 24th in the food-court of Mangusa Hypermarket. It was a day long event from 9:00 am till 7:00 pm where players participated in 3 groups: Under 15 years, 15 - 20 years and Open. Various current and former members of our club participated whereby a few of Janwe's young talents took away some prizes. Club members David Pietersz, Timothy Carolina and Hitesh Manglani won 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively in the under 15 age group.

As the 15 - 20 age group was small various players from the Under 15 age group played in this group as well and later on in the Open. David Pietersz after missing a winning chance against female player Ailen Mena who claimed 1st, once again managed to claim another prize, 2nd this time leaving his chess-pal Dylan Mathilda on 3rd.

The battle in the Open group was an exciting one combining young and older chess talents. Despite the tough challenge former: multi youth chess champion and club player Nigel Silvania managed to take in 3rd place after Jimmy Izijk coming in on 2nd and Ursus van Bemmelen on 1st.
